Mission
Lead developer of the Paris Traceroute network measurement tool, responsible for bringing the tool up to a professional standard suitable for use by industry, as well as for the scientific community.
Descriptif du poste
The developer will take responsibility for the codebase of the free and open source Paris Traceroute network measurement tool (http://www.paris-traceroute.net/), which is written in C. The principal aim is to bring the code up to a professional standard suitable for use by industry, in particular so that it might be adopted into the perfSONAR suite of network diagnostic tools (http://www.perfsonar.net/) that are used by national research and education network (NREN) backbone operators. This work includes tasks such as completing any missing or incomplete functionalities, testing the tool, both for correctness and for backwards compatibility against the classic Traceroute that is found on modern operating systems, completing the documentation, and packaging the tool for a number of flavors of Linux, starting with CentOS6.
A further aim is to make the tool useful for adoption by the scientific community in network measurements. Paris Traceroute is designed around a library in C that is structured in a modular fashion so that users can program a wide variety of measurement tools, beyond simply traceroutes. The developer will demonstrate this capability by programming a functional equivalent of the iperf3 network bandwidth measurement tool (https://github.com/esnet/iperf) on the basis of the Paris Traceroute library, modifying and updating the library as necessary.
